Blu-Ray

By Gretchen Siegchrist, About.com

Definition:

The name Blu-ray is derived from the blue-violet laser used to read and write this type of disc. Because of this shorter wavelength, substantially more data can be stored on a Blu-ray Disc than on the common DVD format.

Blu-ray DVDs have a maximum capacity of 50GB. Consumer Blu-ray disks have a 25GB capacity.
